HIP & KNEE JOINT REPLACEMENTS

HIP & KNEE JOINT REPLACEMENT

Joint Replacement

Joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which the worn, damaged surfaces of the joint are removed and replaced with new artificial parts. Your doctor may consider a joint replacement if you have severe pain which limits daily activities and is not relieved with medications, injections, physical therapy, or other treatments. The goal of the surgery is to relieve pain and restore the alignment and function of your joint.

Hip

  • TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT

Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which the damaged cartilage and bone are removed from the hip joint and replaced with artificial components. The main indication for total hip replacement is arthritis.

  • MINIMALLY INVASIVE TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT

Minimally invasive total hip replacement is a surgical procedure performed through one or two small incisions rather than the single long incision of 10–12-inches as in the traditional approach.

  • OUTPATIENT HIP REPLACEMENT

Outpatient hip surgery is designed to allow surgeons to replace the damaged hip bones through a small, minimally invasive approach. The single incision measures around 5 inches compared to 10 to 12 inches for traditional surgery and is usually placed on the outside of the thigh.

  • REVISION HIP REPLACEMENT

During total hip replacement, the damaged cartilage and bone are removed from the hip joint and replaced with artificial components. At times, hip replacement implants can wear out for various reasons and may need to be replaced with the help of a surgical procedure known as revision hip replacement surgery.

  • SHORT-STAY AND FAST-TRACK HIP REPLACEMENT

Short-stay and fast-track hip replacement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which worn-out or damaged surfaces of the hip joint are removed and replaced with prostheses.

  • POSTERIOR HIP REPLACEMENT

Posterior hip replacement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which the worn out or damaged surfaces of the hip joint are removed and replaced with artificial joint components made of metal, ceramic, or plastic.

  • ANTERIOR HIP REPLACEMENT

Anterior hip replacement surgery is performed under general anesthesia or regional anesthesia. You will lie down on your back, on a special operating table that enables your surgeon to perform the surgery from the front of the hip.

  • DIRECT SUPERIOR HIP REPLACEMENT

Direct superior hip replacement is a minimally invasive surgery that provides your surgeon access to the hip joint with minimum displacement or damage to the surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Knee

Thank you for choosing The Orthopedic Specialty Clinic for your knee replacement surgery. Certainly, the prospect of having your knee replaced is a daunting one. The purpose of this handout is to answer as many potential questions about the process as possible.

  • MINIMALLY INVASIVE KNEE JOINT REPLACEMENT

Minimally invasive surgery for knee replacement involves the use of smaller incisions which are only 4 to 6 inches in length as compared to the 10-12 inch long incision used in the traditional procedure.

  • UNICOMPARTMENTAL/PARTIAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

Unicompartmental knee replacement is a minimally invasive surgery in which only the damaged compartment of the knee is replaced with an implant. It is also called a partial knee replacement.

  • SHORT-STAY AND FAST-TRACK KNEE REPLACEMENT

Short-stay and fast-track knee replacement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which the worn-out or damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with prostheses.

  • COMPLEX TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

Total knee replacement, also called total knee arthroplasty, is a surgical treatment for painful arthritis of the knee in which the worn-out or damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with an artificial prosthesis.

  • REVISION KNEE REPLACEMENT

Revision knee replacement surgery involves replacing a part or all your previous knee prosthesis with a new prosthesis.

  • OUTPATIENT TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

Total knee replacement is the surgical treatment for knee arthritis, where the damaged knee is removed and replaced with an artificial knee implant.

  • TRICOMPARTMENTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

Tricompartmental knee replacement, also called total knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which the worn-out or damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial parts.

  • MUSCLE SPARING TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

A total knee replacement surgery involves replacing the damaged surfaces of the articulating bones with artificial implants to relieve pain and restore function in the knee that is damaged by arthritis or an injury.
